Phillip F. Ludkowski, MD

Dr. Ludkowski is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery (AAOS).  He is Fellowship Trained in Joint Replacement Surgery from the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, England.  He specializes in treating Hip and Knee conditions, particularly Joint Degeneration due to arthritis and other causes.  Dr. Ludkowski performs Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Surgery, Partial Knee Replacement, Revision Surgery, and Arthroscopic Knee Surgery.  

He uses Muscle Sparing minimally invasive Surgical Approaches of the Hip and Knee to reduce pain and accelerate healing.  Modern State of the Science Pain Management protocols, including Regional Blocks, are used to minimize postoperative pain and promote a more rapid recovery for his patients.

In providing care and treatment for a patient's specific orthopaedic condition, Dr. Ludkowski usually initiates conservative or non-surgical measures.  These treatment options may include medications, physical therapy and a specific exercise program, activity modification, bracing, shoe inserts, oral supplements, and/or injections.  Surgery may be recommended if these initial treatments are unsuccessful in relieving pain and allowing for an active, healthy lifestyle.  Whatever the plan of care, patient education about their condition and treatment is done so that the patient can be an active participant in the decision making process.

Dr. Ludkowski was drawn to Medical School and the Practice of Medicine by his interest in Science and desire to help people.  He worked with his father, a carpenter/craftsman, beginning at a very young age using the very same types of tools and techniques used in Reconstructive Orthopaedic Surgery!  Those early acquired skills, combined with his participation in Sporting activities made Orthopaedics a natural choice of Surgical Specialty for him.

In his free time, Dr. Ludkowski enjoys spending time with his 3 children outdoors fishing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, skiing, at the horse races, or cheering on any Chicago sports teams - especially the Blackhawks and the Cubs!
